It is primarily used as a research tool and experimental compound in pharmaceutical development and biochemical studies. The compound functions as a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor, interfering with the activity of HDAC enzymes involved in chromatin remodeling and gene expression regulation. By inhibiting HDACs, it can induce hyperacetylation of histones, affect transcriptional activity (such as γ-globin), inhibit terminal cell differentiation, and promote tumor cell death. While it has shown potential anticancer properties in preclinical models by affecting tumor cell growth, it is not approved for clinical use or any therapeutic indication[3][5][6].
